What a sump system does
A sump system collects water at a low point and pumps it away from the home. It is often paired with interior drainage channels or other measures designed to intercept water.
When a pump is not the whole answer
If water is entering through damaged masonry, large moving cracks, or a bowed wall, structural repair or exterior work may also be needed.
Maintenance matters
A pump should have a clear discharge path and be tested periodically. Backup power or secondary pumping may be worth considering where outages and water entry could occur together.
