Why drainage matters
Roof runoff, poor surface drainage, clogged discharge paths, and low areas near the foundation can concentrate water against basement or crawl-space walls.
What to check first
Look at gutter discharge, downspout extensions, soil slope near the home, low spots, hardscape that pitches inward, and where water collects after heavy rain.
Structural symptoms still need their own diagnosis
Improving drainage can reduce moisture and soil saturation, but it does not automatically reverse settlement or repair a wall that has already moved.
